Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding Commences Construction on Fratelli Cosulich Group's First Methanol-Ready IMO II Bunker Tanker
Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy, a division of Italy’s renowned Fratelli Cosulich Group, marked a significant step in its fleet modernization with the steel cutting of the Anna Cosulich—the group’s inaugural methanol-ready IMO II bunker tanker. The ceremony was held on April 2, 2025, at Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding in China, initiating the construction of the first in a quartet of advanced, environmentally focused vessels.
Founded in 2005 and located in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. covers 340,000 square meters along 1.5 kilometers of coastline. Equipped with advanced facilities, the shipyard specializes in high-value ocean-going bulk carriers, tankers, and container vessels. With over 60 ships delivered and a reputation for quality, the yard is recognized by customers worldwide for its technological expertise and reliable performance.
With a deadweight of 7,999 tons, Anna Cosulich leads a new generation of bunker tankers specifically engineered to support the maritime industry’s transition to cleaner fuels. Designed to meet stringent environmental and operational standards, the vessel is fully methanol-ready, underscoring Fratelli Cosulich’s dedication to decarbonization and sustainable energy solutions.
Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding is also constructing another innovative asset for the group: the Maya Cosulich, an IMO II bunker tanker featuring methanol dual-fuel capability.
The Anna Cosulich is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026. She will feature advanced equipment, including two mass flow meters, MarineLINE protective coating, and all necessary systems for methanol bunkering in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
